Meaning: to secretly take money from your employer.
In every company, some people are given the authority to handle company’s money. It could be a CFO, or an accountant or a manager. For example, a company may give an HR manager $5000 to make arrangements for an annual party. Misusing company’s money for personal gains is called embezzlement.
John works at a consulting firm as an Accountant. The CFO asked him to buy new chairs for office staff. He bought the chairs for $10k. But in the company records, he entered $15k and he moved the extra $5 to his personal account.
