Potable (adjective)

Meaning: suitable and safe to drink.
Every liquid is not safe for drinking, right? Water from river is generally safe to drink, but not the water from an ocean. River water is potable, ocean water is not potable.
Imagine you are in a forest and you ran out of water. You are very thirsty and you are desperately looking for water. After an hour you found a small pond but it was very dirty. You can say, I found a pond but the water was not potable, so I didn’t drink it.”
